transmitter wilsdruff

The transmitter Wilsdruff is a medium wave broadcasting facility near Wilsdruff, Germany. Until the ninties there was a transmitter for 1044 kHz with 250 kilowatts transmission power. As aerial a 153 metre high guyed steel tube mast, which is insulated against ground, is used. Since the middle of the ninties transmission power is only 20 kilowatts. The new transmitter is in the round building on which the aerial mast stands. The old transmitter of the fifties is a technical monument. The whole facility is a relique from stalin era with large fence facilities (double fence with dog track and watchout towers) nealy originally complete. Interesting are also the diesel engines for emergency power supply, which are modified diesel engines from submarines of World War II. Transmitted is the program "MDR info" on 1044 kHz. From 2001 to 2003 a second transmitter for MEGARADIO on 1431 kHz was run. It also used the 153 metre high steel tube mast as aerial.
