Transient

A transient is a short-lived oscillation in a system caused by a sudden change of voltage or current or load. Engineers use voltage regulators and surge suppressors to prevent transients in electricity from affecting delicate equipment. The shock absorbers of an automobile's suspension lessen the stress caused by going over bumps in a road. See also: transient laborer
