) was a general in the army of
North Vietnam
during the three
Indochina Wars
. He led the attack on
Saigon
during the
Tet Offensive
in the
Vietnam War
. In 1982, Tra published his memoirs. The memoirs detailed how in
1975
he had through behind-the-scenes
politics
, convinced the North Vietnamese Politburo to change their cautious strategy to a more aggressive one. This account offended and embarrassed officials in the newly unified
Vietnam
and ultimately led to his
purge
from the
Communist Party
of Vietnam.
