Tran

  • Trần (陳) is a Vietnamese surname. In frequency, it is second only to Nguyen as the most common surname from Vietnam. It is the Vietnamese version of Chan.
  • Trần (陳朝) also refers to the Tran Dynasty, who ruled Viet Nam (at that time was Dai Viet) from 1225 to 1400. They are credited to the 3-time victory over the Mongol Invansion that ended with a decisive victory in the Bach Dang River.
  • TRAN is also the name of a conlang, of the fictional language genre, created by Andrei Burago. The word tran means "speech" in this language, and corresponds with the verb nrat ("to speak"); the first and last letters are switched between nouns and their corresponding verbs. TRAN also has the singularity of marking cases of nouns or verb gerunds as a suffix on the preceding word.
  • Tran is also Norwegian cod liver oil.
  • Tran is also a shorthand way to refer to mass transit. (e.g. MarqTran Bus System)
  • Tran is a book by Jerry Pournelle and Roland Green
