Tr Cool

Tr Cool (Frank Edwin Wright III) (born December 9, 1972) is the percussionist for the rock group Green Day. He joined the band shortly after the original drummer Al Sobrante left for college. He also can play guitar and accordion.

Biography

Drummer of Green day

grew up in Willits, California, with his father and two siblings. His dad, a retired Vietnam vet, built many of the houses in that area, including that of Lawrence Livermore, their nearest neighbor and the founder of Lookout! Records. Livermore also gave Tr his nickname. At age twelve, he joined Livermore's band, the Lookouts. A lot of their gigs were at Berkeley's punk club 924 Gilman Street. Tr knew about Green Day, and he helped their original drummer, Al Sobrante, with his drumming. Shortly after Sobrante left Green Day, a friend of Tr advised him to join the band, and so he did. In March 1995, Tr married Lisa Lyons, his girlfriend, and together they had a daughter, Ramona (b. 1995). They later divorced, but are still good friends. Tr married in 2000 to Claudia, and they had a baby together named Frankito (b. 2001). They divorced in 2003, but they still live together in a house in Oakland, CA.

Drum-set

Tr has his own signature Slingerland drum kit, the "Spitfire". It consists of a 1822 Slingerland Bass drum, a 5½14 Slingerland Radio King Snare, a 6½14 Chrome snare, an 1114 Slingerland mounted tom, and a 1616 Slingerland floor tom. Though the Spitfire comes with Slingerland cymbals, Tr still uses a 19′ Zildjian K Dark Thin Crash on the left, a 20" Zildjian A Medium Ride on the right, a 22" Zildjian K Heavy Ride on the bottom right, a 14" Zildjian K Medium Top, 14" K Medium Heavy Bottom Hi-Hats, and Zildjian Super 5B drumsticks. He also uses Remo Power Stroke 3 on his snare and bass drums, Remo Coated emperors on the tops of his toms, clear ambassadors on the bottoms, and Remo Falam Slam Pad on the bass drum.

Role in the band

His intensive playing, combining with powerful and fast performing are trademarks of Green Day. Without them is doubtful that they will have the same success as of now. Playing since childhood, his speed and discipline are marked by fans and critics as outstanding and Cool's performing hasn't changed for decades. His undeniable skills and talent and as well as his eccentric, but humorous and amiable personality, complements and makes them the band they are. Tr has performed vocals on some Green Day songs, such as Dookie's secret song "All by Myself", and American Idiot sidetrack "Rock and Roll Girlfriend". He also wrote the song "Dominated Love Slave" on Green Day's 1992 album Kerplunk, on which he sang and played guitar. Tr also appears on the Fat Wreck compilation Short Music for Short People with Samiam.
