Total (Music)

Total was an American R&B/new jill swing female trio, active from 1994 to 1999. Comprised of members Kima, Keisha, and Pam, Total was one of the signiture acts of Puff Daddy's Bad Boy Records during the 1990s.

History

One of Total's first appearances was singing the chorus on The Notorious B.I.G.'s 1994 debut single, "Juicy". Total went on to sing the chorus on a popular remix of Biggie's next single, "One More Chance", along with labelmates Mary J. Blige, Faith Evans, and Aaliyah. While Total neer achieved the widespread success labelmates like Biggie and Ma$e did, they did have a number of hit singles. "Can't You See", "Kissin' You", and the Timbaland-produced "What About Us" from the Soul Food soundtrack were all Top 20 hits in the United States. "What About Us" and its follow-up, the Top 10 hit "Trippin'", were written by Missy Elliott. Total disbanded in 1999, although Kima and Keisha appeared on "He's the Greatest DJ", a 2001 single by Tony Touch.
