Tom Barrasso

Thomas Patrick Barasso (born 31 March 1965 in Boston, Massachusetts, USA) was a goaltender in the National Hockey League.

Career overview

Tom Barasso grew up in a working class neighborhood, playing ice hockey on an outdoor rink. He was drafted by the Buffalo Sabres with #5 pick in the 1983 NHL Entry Draft and won both Calder Trophy and Vezina Trophy in his first season, becoming just the third player to win both awards in the same year. In 1989, the Sabres traded Barasso to the Pittsburgh Penguins where he won two Stanley Cups, in 1991 and 1992. In the next years, Barasso almost entirely missed two seasons, the 1994-95 NHL season and the 1996-97 NHL season with the injuries but came back with good performances in the next years. In March 2000, he was traded to Ottawa Senators. He then briefly played for several teams (Senators, the Carolina Hurricanes, the Toronto Maple Leafs and the St. Louis Blues) until retiring from ice hockey in 2003.
