To Catch The Uncatchable

To Catch the Uncatchable is a 25-episode TV sitcom broadcasted in Hong Kong. The show produced by TVB, stars Dayo Wong as the pale, asthma suffering police CID Mok Jok Donk and Ada Choi as Vivi Lee, an insurance agent.

The show's selling point is it is full of gags in Dayo Wong's style, such as adding lots of byword to the character. Besides, its crew used a lot of new, innovative plots, filming techniques, actors and music in the show, bringing surprise to a lot of audiences, who are used to TVB's usual boring shows

The drama is basically about Mok Jok Donk finding out the murderer of the murders happened to be related to Vivi Lee and other main characters, such as his mother. Mok Jok Donk and Vivi Lee become rivals as Vivi Lee concludes Mok Jok Donk to be the one who gave her all of the bad luck, leading to her becoming suspect of the murders several times. As the plot goes on, the couple found out they are, in fact, in love with each other. Unfortunately Mok Jok Donk was hit by a murderer in the head and fell unconscious. He revived a month later and proposed to Vivi Lee. Later, his doctor friend revealed to him that a tumor in his brain is moving to a spot that will kill him instantly without any forewarning. He decided to hide the fact as to keep everyone happy. In the last episode, Mok Jok Donk, during taking a wedding photo with Vivi Lee, spotted a thief sneaking into another's bag and decided to rush out and chase the thief. After chasing the thief for a long distance, where they are both exhuasted, Mok Jok Donk finally caught a thief for his first time in his career. After handing the criminal to his colleagues on duty, he told Vivi Lee that he will be returning in 5 minutes by his mobile phone. In the original ending of the show, after he talked with Vivi Lee, he falls down. Scenes of memories and sorrow background music "Someplace Good" kicks in. The show ended with the wedding photo of the couple turning black and white and Mok Jok Donk slowly fading away, leaving Vivi Lee alone in the photo, which implies that Mok Jok Donk died. This ending received extreme feedback. One side praised it for its groundbreaking, unorthodox sad ending in a comedy drama, in contrast to TVB's usual boring, predictable endings. The other side criticized it heavily for its sudden sad ending in a comedy drama, making a lot of audiences extremely sad. The latter opinions flooded newspapers, internet forums and newsgroups. Eventually TVB folded and cut an edited second edition ending, in which Mok Jok Donk still falls down but managed to get back up to the photo site and take the wedding photo with Vivi Lee pensively, as he still has to hide the fact he might die suddenly to keep everyone else happy.
