To A God Unknown

To a God Unknown is a novel by John Steinbeck, first published in 1933. The plot follows a family who inherit land from their father. One of the sons decides that a tree carries the spirit of the father. The other son deems this heretical and cuts down the tree. Afterwards, the land turns to ruin.
