Tmas GumundssonTmas Gumundsson (6 January 1901 – November 14 1983) was an Icelandic author. He was known as Reykjavk's poet (Reykjavkurskldi, skld Reykjavkur). Gumundsson's parents were Steinunn orsteinsdttir and Gumundur gmundsson, living at Efri-Br in Grmsnes. He soon got in touch with literature and poetry. He read poems, icelandic sagas, Jnas Hallgrmsson's poems and more. He also started to write his own poetry at a young age. He moved to Reykjavk and studied at Menntasklinn Reykjavk, there he got in touch with many authors, including Halldr Laxness (they formed a close friendship during the M.R. years), Gumundur G. Hagaln and Dav Stefnsson. Gumundsson gratuated from M.R. in 1921. He then studied law at Hskli slands and gratuated in 1926. During that time he got in touch with even more authors, including Jn Thoroddsen junior. After his graduation he opened a office to practice law and in 1928 he started working at Hagstofa slands. He closed his office in 1929 and quit at Hagstofan in 1943. From 1943 he was mostly working at poetry and authorship. He was one the editors of Helgafell and Nja Helgafell, he also translated stories, plays and poems. Tomas died 1983 in Reykjavk, aged 82. Works Gumundsson's poems where mostly classical and his style did not change much during his carrier. The poems are mostly about Reykjavk and his place of youth. The first three books he published, Vi sundin bl, Fagra verld and Stjrnur vorsins belong to neoromanticism and so do his last two books, Fljti helga and Heim til n, sland, but its signs are not as strong.
