Tizimn

Tizimn is a small city in the north-east of the state of Yucatn, Mexico. The city is located at 21.13 North, 88.15 West, about 160 km east of Mrida, Yucatn, 200 km west of Cancn and 42 km south of Ro Lagartos, the city's traditional sea port on the Gulf of Mexico. As of 2004, the population of Tizimn is about 40,000 people. The word "Tizimin" meand "tapir" in the Maya language. With the Spanish conquest of Yucatn, Tizimn was established as a Spanish colonial town in 1544. Tizimn is known for its festival in honor of the Three Wise Men in late December and early January.
