Timothy J. Roemer

Timothy John Roemer (born October 30, 1956 in South Bend, Indiana) is a former U.S. Congressman from Indiana who served from 1991 to 2003. Roemer earned a B.A. from the University of California San Diego in 1979. He also earned an M.A. and a Ph.D. from the University of Notre Dame in 1982 and 1986, respectively. He was a member of the commission that investigated the September 11 terrorist attacks and was the key author of the legislation that authorized the Commission. He is a son-in-law of Former US Senator J. Bennett Johnston of Louisiana. On January 9, 2005, Roemer announced his intention to seek the chairmanship of the Democratic National Committee, but withdrew from the race on February 5, leaving Howard Dean as the only candidate left in the race.
