Tilton-northfield, New Hampshire

Tilton-Northfield is a census-designated place (CDP) in New Hampshire. As of the 2000 census, the CDP had a total population of 3,231. The United States Census Bureau uses the CDP designation as a mechanism to report separate population and demographic detail on more densely populated areas within another entity. In this case, Tilton-Northfield is a settled area located within the towns of Tilton and Northfield, New Hampshire which are in Belknap amd Merrimack Counties, respectively. Geography

Tilton-Northfield is located at 43°26'36" North, 71°35'31" West (43.443236, -71.591827). According to the U.S. census, the CDP has a total area of 7.8 km² (3.0 mi²), none of which is covered with water.

Demographics

As of the census of 2000, there are 3,231 people, 1,241 households, and 759 families residing in the settlement. The population density is 415.8/km² (1,077.2/mi²). There are 1,311 housing units at an average density of 168.7/km² (437.1/mi²). The racial makeup of the CDP is 96.69% White, 0.09% African American, 0.50% Native American, 0.68% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.12% from other races, and 1.92% from two or more races. 0.59% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 1,241 households out of which 32.3% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 41.5% are married couples living together, 13.7% have a female householder with no husband present, and 38.8% are non-families. 30.0% of all households are made up of individuals and 12.7% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.42 and the average family size is 2.98. In the CDP the population is spread out with 24.6% under the age of 18, 8.0% from 18 to 24, 30.4% from 25 to 44, 20.1% from 45 to 64, and 16.9% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 37 years. For every 100 females there are 94.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 95.7 males. The median income for a household is $37,136, and the median income for a family is $45,804. Males have a median income of $31,535 versus $24,709 for females. The per capita income for the CDP is $16,792. 6.6% of the population and 3.1% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 3.7% of those under the age of 18 and 9.6% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
