Tigerfish Torpedo

The Mk24-2 Tigerfish torpedo is a heavy Acoustic homing torpedo used by the Royal Navy for several years. It is being replaced in service by the much more capable Spearfish torpedo.

  • Range: 39 kilometers (22 nautical miles) at low speed, 13 kilometers (7 nautical miles) at high speed
  • Length: 6.5 meters (21.2 feet)
  • Diameter: 533mm (21 inches)
  • Weight: 1550 kilograms (3414 pounds)
  • Warhead: 134-340 kilograms (295-750 pounds)
  • Power Plant: Electrical
  • Fuel: Chloride silver-zinc oxide batteries
  • Guidance System: Wire guided with active terminal homing sonar
  • First Deployed: mid-1980s
