thyroglobulin (dict)

Thyroglobulin

Thyroglobulin is a protein secreted by the thyroid gland. It is partially responsible for adolescent growth, maintaining a healthy weight and is also necessary for healthy skin and hair. Hence, a thyroglobulin deficient patient typically shows symptoms of slow speech, lack of energy, weight gain, hair loss, dry thick skin, and increased sensitivity to cold. It is rarely perscribed to patients as many other proteins aid in these processes and an abundance of thyroglobulin unsurprisingly has similar side-effects to an unhealthily low amount.
