Throckmorton County, Texas

Throckmorton County is a county located in the state of Texas. As of 2000, the population is 1,850. Its county seat is Throckmorton6. The county is named for William Throckmorton, an early Collin County settler.

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 2,371 km² (915 mi²). 2,363 km² (912 mi²) of it is land and 8 km² (3 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.34% water.

As of the census2 of 2000, there are 1,850 people, 765 households, and 534 families residing in the county. The population density is 1/km² (2/mi²). There are 1,066 housing units at an average density of 0/km² (1/mi²). The racial makeup of the county is 92.11% White, 0.05% Black or African American, 0.43% Native American, 0.05% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 5.57% from other races, and 1.78% from two or more races. 9.35% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 765 households out of which 29.20% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 58.80% are married couples living together, 8.20% have a female householder with no husband present, and 30.10% are non-families. 28.00% of all households are made up of individuals and 16.60% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.39 and the average family size is 2.92. In the county, the population is spread out with 25.20% under the age of 18, 5.70% from 18 to 24, 22.90% from 25 to 44, 25.70% from 45 to 64, and 20.50% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 42 years. For every 100 females there are 97.20 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 93.00 males. The median income for a household in the county is $28,277, and the median income for a family is $34,563. Males have a median income of $22,837 versus $19,485 for females. The per capita income for the county is $17,719. 13.50% of the population and 11.40% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 19.60% of those under the age of 18 and 7.50% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
