ThranguThrangu Rinpoche (pronounced TRONG-goo RIN-poh-chay) was born in 1933 in Kham, Tibet. He is a senior reincarnate lama in the Kagyu school of Tibetan Buddhism, the ninth reincarnation in his particular line. The term Rinpoche is an honorific title (meaning "precious one" or "precious jewel") which is frequently used to address or describe reincarnated Tibetan lamas. Thrangu is rarely referred to without this title. Thrangu is also the name of the Eastern Tibetan monastery where Thrangu Rinpoche was installed after his identification at the age of five. Thrangu Rinpoche fled to India following the Chinese military takeover in 1959. He currently lives in Nepal and serves as senior tutor to Urgyen Trinley Dorje, who is recognized by many as the 17th Karmapa. See also External link Thrangu Rinpoche
