Thomas Knevytt

Sir Thomas Knevytt (later Lord Knyvett or sometimes Knevett) was the man who arrested Guy Fawkes in his attempt to blow up the Houses of Parliament. Lord Knyvett was granted the manor of Stanwell and later (in 1613) the Manor of Staines, along with additional honours and possessions. When Lord Knyvett died in July 1622 his Will provided for the foundation of a free-school in Stanwell, and the Lord Knyvett School was founded in 1624. Stanwell's St Mary's church contains monuments to Lord and Lady Knyvett.
