Thomas Jordan

Thomas Jordan (September 30, 1819 - November 27, 1895), born in Luray Valley, Virginia, was a Confederate spy in the American Civil War. In 1840, he graduated from the United States Military Academy. He entered the army as second lieutenant of the Third infantry, in garrison at Fort Snelling, Minnesota, and fought in the war against the Seminole Indians. He started an embryonic spy network in Washington, D.C. as early as 1860, which was active during the American Civil War. In 1861 he handed control of the network to Rose O'Neal Greenhow. He later became a Confederate colonel.
