The Water Is Wide

Pat Conroy's The Water is Wide is a story about his work as a teacher on the island of Yamacraw, South Carolina. Yamacraw is a poor, run- down island which has no bridge and little infastructure. In is book he discusses everything from the boat trips to and from the island, to the island people and their quirks, to his battles with the school board over things such as gas.
