The Tonight Show/tempThe Tonight Show is a comedy / talk show that is shown on the NBC television network. Currently, the show is hosted by Jay Leno, and the music director is Kevin Eubanks. The show airs at 11:30 pm Eastern Time. Up until May of 1992, the show was hosted by Johnny Carson, with Ed McMahon as a sidekick and announcer, and "Doc" Servinson as the music director. The Tonight Show has followed a standard formula for decades. The show is usually comprised of a monologue, a comedy skit, an interview segment, and a performance of some sort. The show begins with a monologue that lasts about ten minutes. During the Carson era, the jokes were comprised of jokes on current events and other subjects. Since Leno has taken over the show, the monologue consists primarily of jokes on current events. After the monologue, a skit is performed. A popular comedy skit is "Headlines," where Leno shows newspaper items, labels, and other printed items where misprints, spelling errors, or other mistakes are made and released. For example, the Green Bay paper that mistakenly printed "Tommy Thompson's Pen is a Sword" accidentally printed it as "Thompson's Penis a Sword" was shown during one of the early Headlines segments. Another popular skit is "Jaywalking." In this type of skit, Leno goes out on to the street and interviews people that he comes across. After the skit is over, Jay usually interviews a few selected people. These can be actors / actresses, political figures, people in the news, music stars, and others.
