The Temple Of Elemental Evil

The Temple of Elemental Evil is the title of a module (coded T1-4) written by Gary Gygax for the first edition of Advanced Dungeons & Dragons, published in 1985. It was an expansion of an earlier module, The Village of Hommlet (T1). It was one of the early modules that popularized the world of Greyhawk. In 2001, a sequel (The Return to the Temple of Elemental Evil) was published for Dungeons & Dragons 3rd Edition. This classic adventure begins with the eponymous village, situated near the site of a past battle against the forces of a temple devoted to destruction. Adventurers travelling here, for whatever reason, will be drawn into a web of conspirators, some wicked and others benign. The first part culminates at a ruined moathouse where agents secretly plan to re-enter the Temple's sealed gates and free the demonic Zuggtmoy. Based on their actions in T-1, the player characters will join the forces of good and ensure the Temple's absolute downfall. Although initially written as a stand-alone campaign, T 1-4 dovetailed into A 1-4 Scourge of the Slave Lords, when these adventures were revised in 1986 as supermodules. The campaign culminates with the rare GDQ series, combining G 1-3 Against the Giants, D 1-3 Drow series (introducing the Drow for the first time), and the Q-1 Queen of the Demonweb Pits, where heroes fight against Lolth herself. In 2003 a computer game based on the original module was released. It was developed by Troika Games and published by Atari. It remains the only D&D related computer game set in the original Greyhawk setting.
