The SharpThe Sharp were a three piece pop/rock band from Melbourne, Australia. History The band formed in 1991 with Charlie Rooke on guitar, Allan Catlin on double bass and Piet Collins on drums. All three shared vocal duties with Charlie and Allan sharing fairly evenly and Piet singing the odd song. The Sharp are best known for their string of singles including Train Of Thought, Scratch My Back and Talking Sly as well as their black skivvies and energetic live show including Allan balancing on his double bass while playing. After releasing numerous EPs the band finally released their debut album This Is The Sharp in 1993 to much media attention. A tour of Europe followed in 1994, the band gaining popularity in Germany. Sonic Tripod, the band's second album, is released on 22 August 1994. Singles included Honest & Sober, Alone Like Me and Spider. The band take a break in 1995 after which Piet leaves the band. He is replaced by Adam May but the band announce their breakup soon afterward. The band celebrate with a final tour from 29 August to 23 October. An album of unreleased material was released after the break up, Skeletons In The Closet. In 1997, Charlie self releases a single from his new band Earlobe. The band reformed to do a show at the HiFi Bar in Melbourne on 3 March 2000. A single was rumoured to be released on the night, Skinny Dog, but it never saw the light of day. The comeback tour was rumoured to have been multiple shows but only the HiFi Bar was played. Piet Collins has written scripts for Australian soap opera, Neighbours.
