The Planetary Society is a large organization that has many research projects related to astronomy. It was founded in 1980 by Carl Sagan, Bruce Murray, and Louis Friedman. It is dedicated to advocate the exploration of Mars, the search for near-Earth objects, and the search for extraterrestrial life.

Projects

The Society sponsors novel and innovative projects that will seed further exploration. These projects, funded by its members not with government support, distinguish the Society as an organization that makes it happen. The Society's current list of projects includes:
