The Night Of The Triffids

The Night of The Triffids, written by Simon Clark, is the sequel to the novel The Day of the Triffids. ISBN 0340766018. The Night of The Triffids starts 25 years after the original book ends. The main character David Masen is the son of Bill Masen, main character in The Day of the Triffids. Similarly to the first book, Night opens with the main character struggling by himself to get to grips with the result of an unnatural phenomenon. Whilst investigating the unusual clouds blocking out the Sun, he loses contact with his community and crash lands. He is rescued along with the inhabitant of the floating island he lands on and is taken to Manhattan. Here he discovers a community headed by a dictator, who previously came up against Bill Masen in the first book. Added to the perils faced from other humans, the Triffids begin to mutate in new and ever more dangerous ways. Simon Clark has written this book very much in the style of John Wyndham, fast-paced with only the bare bones of description, no foul language and characters very much in a Fifties style.
