The Liberator
was an
abolitionist
newspaper founded in
1831
by
William Lloyd Garrison
. It only had a circulation of about 3,000, but still earned nationwide notoriety for Garrison, who used
The Liberator
to advocate "immediate and complete
emancipation
of all slaves" in the
United States
.
The Liberator
was published until
1865
when the
American Civil War
came to a close and the
13th Amendment
abolished slavery in all the states.
