The Latin KingsThe Latin Kings a.k.a TLK is a Swedish Hip Hop group from the Municipality of Botkyrka in the southern suburbs of Stockholm, Sweden. The members of the group is lead rapper Douglas "Dogge Doggelito" Lon and the two brothers Salla and Chepe. They all have roots in Latin America (Venezuela and Chile), hence the name of the group. They grew up in the concrete suburbs in Botkyrka were a large proportion of the population are immigrants and refugees and poverty is more visible than elsewhere in Sweden. The Hip Hop subculture has a large following in these areas of Stockholm. All the band members still live in their old neighbourhood and many of their songs reflect life in the "Svartskallefrorten" (The Black Head Suburb). "Svartskalle" (Black Head) is a Swedish derogatory term used to describe immigrants since most native Swedes do not have black hair. You may compare it to the English word "nigger". TLK was the first to release an album with Hip Hop in Swedish in 1994. Earlier Swedish rappers had always done it in English. That first album was called "Vlkommen till frorten" (Welcome to the suburb) and the very first single was "Snubben" (The dude). After being ripped off by their record company they decided to start their own record label, Red Line Records where they've signed a number of talented Hip Hop artists in Sweden such as Fattaru, Kalle Kath, Fjrde vrlden and Ison & Fille. TLK has become famous for rapping in the local "Botkyrka Swedish" slang language that is used in areas with many immigrants. It's basically Swedish with many loanwords from other languages like Turkish, Syriac, Spanish, Arabic and more. Albums and Singles - Vlkommen till frorten (1994)
