The Last Chronicle Of Barset

The final novel in Anthony Trollope's series of books Chronicles of Barsetshire, The Last Chronicle of Barset involves an indigent but learned clergyman, the Reverend Josiah Crawley, the curate of Hogglestock, as he stands accused of stealing a check. The novel is notable for the non-resolution of a plot continued from the previous novel in the series, The Small House at Allington involving Lily Dale and Johnny Eames; as well as the courtship of Crawley's daughter, Grace, and the Major Walter Grantly, son of the wealthy Archdeacon Grantly. The novel also includes the sudden demise of Mrs. Proudie, the virago wife of the Bishop of Barchester; and the poignant death scene of the gentle Mr. Harding, title character of The Warden.
