Following the success of the Lord of the Rings movie trilogy, fans were hopeful that director Peter Jackson would make a screen version of the other popular work in the Tolkein pantheon, The Hobbit. The excitement was such that people were easily fooled by a false movie trailer cobbled together from scenes from Lord of the Rings and from Dragonslayer. Jackson initially spurned the idea of doing another movie in the Lord of the Rings genre, and insisted that his focus was solely on his coming remake of King Kong. However, early in 2005, Jackson relented, saying that he would indeed direct The Hobbit, and that the movie will start production in three or four years, which is around 2009. It will likely come out in 2010. Cast and Crew Ian Holm - Bilbo Baggins Ian McKellen - Gandalf Andy Serkis - Gollum Directed by Peter Jackson External links The Hobbit?
