The Fort Garry Horse

The Fort Gary Horse is a Canadian militia (i.e. part-time reservist) armoured regiment. It is currently part of Land Force Western Area's 38 Canadian Brigade Group.

History

  • 1912 34th Regiment of Cavalry
  • 1913 34th Fort Garry Horse
  • WWI volunteers went to 6th Battalion CEF, later Canadian Cavalry Depot, then later The Fort Garry Horse.
  • 1920 named The Fort Garry Horse organised to perpetuate The Fort Garry Horse of CEF
  • 1936 absorbed The Manitoba Horse
  • WWII 10th Armoured Regiment (The Fort Garry Horse)
  • 1946 The Fort Garry Horse reconstituted in Militia
  • 1949 The Fort Garry Horse (10th Armoured Regiment)
  • 1958 1st Fort Garry Horse (Regular Force) and 2nd Fort Garry Horse (Militia)
  • 1960 The Fort Garry Horse (two regiments - regular and militia)
  • 1970 Regular Force component disbanded
