The Edlos
The EDLOS (l-r): Ed Cohn, Craig Knudsen, Eric Morris, Larry Venza
The EDLOS
are a
contemporary a cappella
quartet based in the
San Francisco Bay Area
. The name is said to be an
acronym
for "Excessive Decibel Levels from Outer Space." Formed in
1988
, the group's original members were Ed Cohn (bass), Bill Davis (tenor), Eric Morris (tenor) and Larry Venza (baritone). Tenor Craig Knudsen replaced Davis in 1993. With their
operatic
training, the EDLOS are known for their powerful voices and their broad comic approach to live performance. They are most renowned for their shows' multiple costume changes and sight gags, and for their satirical renditions of classic
1960s
pop hits such as "Hurdy Gurdy Man" and "The Lion Sleeps Tonight." The EDLOS have won numerous industry awards, including the
1989
Harmony Sweepstakes
championship. They have made featured appearances for
NPR
and
PBS
, and have accompanied tours by
Ray Charles
and the rock group
Chicago
.
