The Dictionary Of American Regional English

The Dictionary of American Regional English, also known as DARE, is the result of a linguistic survey begun in the 1960s. It's aim is to document words used which are not used everywhere in the United States, only in specific areas. Frederic Cassidy of the University of Wisconsin started the project in 1963. Between 1965 and 1970 field workers gathered much of the information for the project, and staff members are still researching and updating the entries for publication. To date four volumes have been published: A-C, D-H, I-O, and P-Sk, in 1985, 1991, 1996, and 2002, respectively. *Dictionary of American Regional English
