The Calculus AffairThe Calculus Affair (originally L'affaire Tournesol) is one of a series of classic comic-strip albums, written and illustrated by Belgian writer and illustrator Herg, featuring young reporter Tintin as a hero. The Calculus Affair is the eighteenth in the series. The Storyline A mysterious line of events has been happening at Marlinspike. Mirrors are magically breaking, windows shattering, and even Porcelain Ming vases are being destroyed by supposedly no force at all. When Tintin and Haddock investigate Cuthbert's Laboratory, they find a strange sonic device which has been causing all the problems. Before they get a chance to talk to the professor, the latter gets abducted. Tintin and Haddock try and track him down. They end up in Geneva, and learn that Borduria is trying to steal the sonic weapons, which Calculus didn't mean to be used for warfare, but for more peaceful reasons. They end up rescuing Calculus in a tank, and go home. A famous sight gag from this album is the one where Captain Haddock tries to get rid of a piece of band-aid, but it keeps returning to him. Also of mention here is Arturo Benedetto Giovanni Giuseppe Pietro Archangelo Alfredo Cartoffoli da Milano, a driver whose name helped him avoid a fine for reckless driving. Calculus Affair, The
