The Brave Little Toaster

The Brave Little Toaster is an animated movie, directed by Jerry Rees, written by Thomas M. Disch and produced by Hyperion Pictures. It was released in 1987. The film followed five household appliances, Radio, Blanky, Lampy, Kirby (a vacuum cleaner), and the Toaster, on their quest to find their owner, Rob (also referred to as "The Master"). The Brave Little Toaster was controversial, since it contained fairly graphic scenes and language, considering its intended audience of children. Particularly objected to were the use of the words "hell" and "damn" by the Radio, and one scene in a repair shop, which showed dismembered appliances. The Brave Little Toaster received an Emmy nomination for Best Animated Program in 1988. It was followed by two sequels, The Brave Little Toaster Goes to Mars (1998) and The Brave Little Toaster to the Rescue (1999). A DVD version of the film was released in 2004. Two of the voice actors, Jon Lovitz and Phil Hartman, would later go on to join Saturday Night Live.
