The Blue Nile

The Blue Nile is an influential pop music band from Glasgow, Scotland that has released just 4 albums (with several years between each release). Their first album, A Walk Across The Rooftops (1983), influenced So (1986), the best-known album by Peter Gabriel. Annie Lennox did a cover version of "Downtown Lights" from Hats (1989) for her album Medusa (1995). The band were discovered by accident when a local manufacturer required spare audio tape to experiment on a new tape splicing device they were working on. On playing the spliced tape, their engineers recommended to their management who gave them a recording contract.
