Tension Pneumothorax

Tension Pneumothorax Definition: A clinical diagnosis due to one-way valve causing accumulation of air in pleural space. Symptoms: Respiratory Distress, Tachycardia, Cyanosis, Asymmetry of chest wall movement, Deviation of the trachea away from the affected side, Hyperresonance during percussion. Treatment: Large bore IV needle inserted in the 2nd intercostal space, mid clavicular line. Chest tube in 5th intercostal space, anterior axillary line.
