Telephone Slamming

Telephone slamming is an illegal telecommunications practice of changing subscribers' long distance or other telephone service without their consent. Slamming could happen by mistake, but it may also happen when subscribers take a survey or enter a contest, among other things. Some anti-slamming tips include:
  1. Read the fine print of your telephone bill
  2. Ask your local phone carrier if they freeze your long distance carrier
  3. Fully understand what telemarketers are trying to sell you
