Taylor is named for Edward Taylor, George Taylor, and James Taylor, three brothers who died at the Alamo. Geography According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 2,381 km² (919 mi²). 2,371 km² (916 mi²) of it is land and 9 km² (4 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.39% water. There are 47,274 households out of which 34.70% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 53.80% are married couples living together, 11.50% have a female householder with no husband present, and 31.20% are non-families. 25.70% of all households are made up of individuals and 9.70% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. In the county, the population is spread out with 26.60% under the age of 18, 13.80% from 18 to 24, 27.80% from 25 to 44, 19.30% from 45 to 64, and 12.40% who are 65 years of age or older.
