Tautiska Giesme

"Tautiška Giesmė" is the national anthem of Lithuania. It was written in 1898 by Dr. Vincas Kudirka and became the official national anthem in 1919.

"Tautiška giesmė"

(in Lithuanian)
Lietuva, Tėvyne mūsų,
Tu didvyrių žeme,
Iš praeities Tavo sūnūs
Te stiprybę semia. Tegul Tavo vaikai eina
Vien takais dorybės,
Tegul dirba Tavo naudai
Ir žmonių gėrybei. Tegul saulė Lietuvoj
Tamsumas prašalina,
Ir šviesa, ir tiesa
Mūs žingsnius telydi. Tegul meilė Lietuvos
Dega mūsų širdyse,
Vardan tos Lietuvos
Vienybė težydi!

"The National Song"

(English translation)
Lithuania Our Homeland,
land of heroes,
let your sons draw strength
from the past. May your children walk
only ways of goodness,
Let them labor for your good
And for the welfare of the people. Let the sun eliminate
Lithuania's shadows,
and may light and truth
Accompany our footsteps. May the love for Lithuania
burn in our hearts,
and, for Lithuania's sake,
let unity flourish!
