Tanana, AlaskaTanana is a city located in Yukon-Koyukuk Census Area, Alaska. As of the 2000 census, the population of the city is 308. Geography Tanana is located at 65°10'14" North, 152°4'33" West (65.170544, -152.075883). According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 40.4 km² (15.6 mi²). 29.9 km² (11.6 mi²) of it is land and 10.4 km² (4.0 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 25.80% water. Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 308 people, 121 households, and 68 families residing in the city. The population density is 10.3/km² (26.6/mi²). There are 166 housing units at an average density of 5.5/km² (14.4/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 17.86% White, 79.87% Native American, and 2.27% from two or more races. 0.65% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 121 households out of which 41.3% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 26.4% are married couples living together, 20.7% have a female householder with no husband present, and 43.0% are non-families. 37.2% of all households are made up of individuals and 10.7% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.55 and the average family size is 3.43. In the city the population is spread out with 34.7% under the age of 18, 6.5% from 18 to 24, 28.2% from 25 to 44, 22.1% from 45 to 64, and 8.4% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 34 years. For every 100 females there are 131.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 128.4 males. The median income for a household in the city is $29,750, and the median income for a family is $34,028. Males have a median income of $30,781 versus $23,500 for females. The per capita income for the city is $12,077. 23.0% of the population and 16.4% of families are below the poverty line.
