Tampa Bay Storm - The 'Pittsburgh Gladiators' have no connection to the current Arena Football League team, the Las Vegas Gladiators.
The Tampa Bay Storm are a member franchise of the Arena Football League. They moved from Pittsburgh (where they were the Gladiators) in 1991. The Pittsburgh Gladiators were formed in 1987, as one of the original four AFL teams. Along with their traditional rivals, the Orlando Predators, they share the Arena record for the longest tenure by a franchise in a single market area. They are also the only one of the original four franchises to have operated in continuous existence from the formation of the league in 1987 until the present. The team played in the former Florida Suncoast Dome (informally and perhaps better known then as the "Thunderdome", now called Tropicana Field and home of the Major League Baseball Tampa Bay Devil Rays) in St. Petersburg from 1991-1996, becoming its first regular team sports tenant until followed shortly afterwards by the expansion Tampa Bay Lightning of the National Hockey League. The Storm won the league title in its first Tampa Bay season and have won four subsequent championships. For the 1997 and subsequent seasons the team has played its home games in the St. Pete Times Forum (previously the Ice Palace) which despite its name, comes from a newspaper which bought the naming rights to the facility, is located across Tampa Bay in the city of Tampa, a venue which was built for the Lightning to be the primary tenant. As of 2004, the Storm has qualified for the playoffs in every season of their Tampa Bay existence. The Storm compete in the Southern Division of the National Conference. They are coached by Tim Marcum, who is widely regarded as the greatest coach in Arena history. The Storm have won five ArenaBowl titles: 1991, 1993, 1995, 1996, 2003. Head coaches Notable players
