Syrian Thistle


Notobasis syriaca Syrian Thistle is the only species recognized in the genus Notobasis of the sunflower family (Asteraceae). Some researchers and the database IPNI merge this plant into the genus Cnicus under the name Cnicus syriacus. It is an annual belonging to the desert flora of the Middle East and Iran. It occurs equally in southern Spain, the Baleares, Malta and in isolated spots in Italy.
