Synoptic Scale Meteorology

synoptic literally means an overall view - hence Synoptic Gospels. In meteorology, synoptic scale refers to space and timescales roughly corresponding to those of mid-latitude depressions: thus spatial scales of several thousand kilometers and timescales of several days.
