Symphony No. 9 (Shostakovich)

The Symphony No. 9 in E flat major (Opus 70) by Dmitri Shostakovich was first performed on 3 November 1945 by the Leningrad Philharmonic Orchestra under Yevgeny Mravinsky. The work has five movements:
  1. Allegro
  2. Moderato
  3. Presto
  4. Largo
  5. Allegretto - Allegro
With this small-scale work, Shostakovich avoided the traditional peroration Ninth Symphony and demands for a colossal victory celebration. Despite its serious moments, much of it is light and cheeky in the manner of the First. Symphony No. 09 (Shostakovich)
