Sylvan Pass

Sylvan Pass (elevation 8530 ft/2600 m), is a mountain pass located in the Absaroka Range in Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming. The pass provides access to the park from the east entrance. The pass was named for neaby Sylvan Lake and was formed by frost action breaking the rocks. The park road through the pass is closed in winter and avalanches are a common seasonal danger. Major reconstruction is planned for the road through the pass between 2004 and 2006. The road through the pass was designed by Captain Hiram Chittenden of the Army Corps of Engineers.
