Sword Of Doom

Sword of Doom, known in Japan as Dai-bosatsu tōge (大菩薩峠), is a samurai movie released in 1966. It was directed by Kihachi Okamoto and starred Tatsuya Nakadai. The story is about the descent into insanity of a sociopathic samurai (played by Nakadai). As the story unfolds, his insanity is revealed slowly as he arbitrarily kills innocents around him. The character practices an evil style of samurai fencing, which represents his evil soul. His mastery of the style makes him believe he is unbeatable until he meets his opposite (played by Toshiro Mifune in a cameo role). Seeing somebody who is capable of beating him in a duel, creates fear and doubt in the character, which furthers his madness. Eventually friends and relatives of his victims conspire for revenge against him. The ending of the film is one of the most famous (and longest) sword fight scenes on film. The film ends abruptly to make a point about the eternal struggle of Good versus Evil.
