Sveriges RadioSveriges Radio (SR) - Swedish Radio Ltd - is Sweden's national publicly-funded radio broadcaster. The Swedish public-broadcasting system is in many respects modelled after the one used in the United Kingdom, and Sveriges Radio shares many characteristics with its British counterpart, the BBC. Sveriges Radio is a public limited company, owned by an independent foundation, and funded through a licensing fee determined by the Swedish Parliament. No advertising is permitted. SR's status could be described as that of a quasi-autonomous non-governmental organization. The company was founded in 1925 as Radiotjnst (Radio service), and was renamed Sveriges Radio in 1957. SR was formerly also responsible for public-service television in Sweden; however, since 1993 that function has been allocated to a separate organization, Sveriges Television (SVT). List of FM radio stations All of the above channels are broadcast nationally via FM as well as being relayed over the internet. A large part of P4's programming, however, is regional with 25 regions each broadcasting their own local programmes during most of the day. In some cases there are other local variants of the national channels, most notably the continuous classical music version of P2, available in Stockholm and Malm. Additional regional stations: Digital audio broadcasting Sveriges Radio also provides a number of channels through Digital audio broadcasting, using the DAB standard. These channels are also available via the internet, given the relatively limited number of DAB receivers in use at the present moment.
