Surinam National Football Team
The
Surinam national football team
is the national team of
Surinam
and is controlled by the
Surinaamse Voetbal Bond
. Although the former
Dutch
colony
is located in
South America
, it competes in
CONCACAF
, together with
Guyana
. Until the independence of Surinam in
1975
, it competed as the
Dutch Guiana national football team
. Unfortunately for the team, the best Surinam-born players chose to play for the
Netherlands
; that list includes
Edgar Davids
,
Clarence Seedorf
, and
Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink
. Dutch-born players like
Ruud Gullit
,
Frank Rijkaard
, and
Patrick Kluivert
could have also chosen to play for Surinam.
