Surinam National Football Team

The Surinam national football team is the national team of Surinam and is controlled by the Surinaamse Voetbal Bond. Although the former Dutch colony is located in South America, it competes in CONCACAF, together with Guyana. Until the independence of Surinam in 1975, it competed as the Dutch Guiana national football team. Unfortunately for the team, the best Surinam-born players chose to play for the Netherlands; that list includes Edgar Davids, Clarence Seedorf, and Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink. Dutch-born players like Ruud Gullit, Frank Rijkaard, and Patrick Kluivert could have also chosen to play for Surinam.
