SuplexA Suplex is an offensive move used in wrestling, both in competitive wrestling (includes fields of olympic wrestling and amateur wrestling) and scripted wrestling (or Professional Wrestling or Sports entertainment.) The move generally consists of one wrestler picking up his opponent off the ground (or mat) and then using a large portion of his own body weight to drive his opponent down on the mat. Nearly all suplexes have the attacker going down to the mat with his opponent and the opponent landing on his back. For example, common in professional wrestling is the vertical suplex, which has the wrestlers begin face to face, then the attacker forces his opponent's head down and locks his arm around it. He then places his opponent's arm around his own head, seemingly as a way of helping his opponent to stay in mid-air during the next part of the move, in which the attacker grabs the opponent by his trunks and lifts him high off the mat, so that his body is upside-down and vertical above the attacker. The attacker falls backwards onto his own back, using his body weight to slam his opponent down onto his back (the attacker's cradling of his opponent's head helps ensure his neck and head aren't damaged by hitting the mat on the landing move). In summary, the opponent has been forced into doing a forward flip onto his back. See Professional wrestling throws for other verieties of a suplex. In olympic and amateur wrestling there also exist suplex-like moves, called suu-plays or suplays, a Greco-Roman wrestling term. The fact that some professional wrestling commentators (very rarely) use the word 'suplay' in place of 'suplex' suggests the two names define the same kind of move. Origin of the words "suplex" or "suplay/suu-play" is still a subject of research.
