Sunset ClauseA sunset clause is commonly a provision of a law passed by a legislature which causes that law to, in effect, repeal itself automatically as of a given date in the future, unless it is extended by another act of legislature. They are commonly included in controversial laws as an attempt to assuage the concerns of opponents, although they are not solely found in that type of lawmaking. For example, income tax in the United Kingdom must be renewed yearly by Act of Parliament.
